Memorial Garden

The Ojai United Methodist Church established a Memorial Garden in 1998 for the interment of cremated remains and for meditation. A longstanding member of the church, Frances Scott, introduced the idea and persevered with church members to make the Memorial Garden a reality. Today, it is known as the “Frances Scott Memorial Garden” and located on the west side of the Sanctuary. Burial in the churchyard is a longstanding tradition in both American and English churches.

Interment in the Memorial Garden is limited to baptized members of the Ojai United Methodist Church, their spouses, parents, children, and grandchildren; and other baptized United Methodist, at the discretion of the Ojai UMC church Council. The Frances Scott Memorial Garden is maintained through donations.
Interments in the Frances Scott Memorial Garden are unmarked and confidential. The location of the cremated remains is recorded on the plot plan maintained in the church office. A bronze nameplate, inscribed with the deceased person’s name and dates, is attached to the Memorial Plaque situated in the Garden and these are placed in chronological order.

The Ojai United Methodist Church accepts a donation of $1,100.00 per person, or $1,650.00 per couple for interment of cremated remains. Donation above this amount are welcome. This donation covers both the cost of the nameplate and used to maintain the Memorial Garden.
